A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR SCHOOL

The journey of Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher secondary school at Thiruvanmiyur, with a humble strength of 53 students, started on 12th June of 1984, with the blessings of His Holiness SRI KANCHI ACHARYAS. Now it has grown and established its institutions at four places viz., Thiruvanmiyur,Thoraipakkam, Perungudi and Kilkattalai managed by Hindu Seva Samajam Trust - Thiruvanmiyur, a voluntary organisation registered under Indian Trust Act. We celebrated Silver Jubilee on 25th July 2009.

The pivot Sri M. Ramakrishnan, was the Founder Correspondent. With an able-mind and noble-heart, he successfully built a society of educated minds. The man behind all our successful endeavours is the Joint Secretary, Sri V.V Doraiswamy. Their noble task has equipped our students to compete in the present world. The torch of legacy has been passed to the new champion Mr. R. Sankar, our new Secretary to carry forward the mission of our school.

With a motto ‘Be Good and Do Good’, the school guides and trains nearly 1400 students. A team of 75 dedicated staff and sub staff under the leadership of Mrs.M. Ramapriya, Mrs.Vasantha Ramanarayanan, Mrs.Vedavalli, Mrs.Gowri Swaminathan,Mrs.J.Kalaivani, Mrs. Latha Ravi, Mrs. Gowri Sivakumar and Mrs.R. Rajalakshmi have established the right platform to achieve the motto. Now Dr.S.Janaki has taken up the mantle to serve this organisation, Amruthavarshini. supported by Mr.R.Kiran and Mrs.D.Amruthavarshini.

We cater to the needs of nearly 50% of first generation students.Every Friday, the school students assemble to sing bhajans. On special occasions viz., Sankara Jayanthi, Jayanthi of Paramacharya, Jayanthi of His Holiness Jayendra Saraswathy Swamigal, Jayanthi of His Holiness Vijayendra Saraswathy Swamigal,Navarathri,Vinayaka Chathurthi,Krishna Jayanthi etc., students bring flowers and fruits and offer to God and special bhajans are conducted. We adopt a reasonably fair fee structure to help the low income group people. Further, meritorious but financially backward students are encouraged by granting scholarship, free uniforms and the management provides noon nutrition whenever required.

Ours is a co-educational institution having classes from pre-kg to XII std. with well-equipped library, laboratories and updated computer lab with internet and multimedia facilities. The Stem lab and Mechatronics system are the extended features to facilitate the students to improve their technical skills.

The school is always ready to comply with modern teaching technologies and methodologies in the classroom. Conservation of electricity is done through the 10KV solar panels installed in the school premises.

We believe in instilling good values every month and we follow these values with all activities, right from assembly to dispersal.

Nutrition

Junk the junk food’ is our policy. Only vegetables, fruits and legumes are encouraged in daily diet sent by the parents.

Technology enabled education

Keeping in stride with the changing scenario, our children are also exposed to smart learning through smart boards. Such Audio Visual Aids make learning permanent and joyful. This leap in the use of educational technology is greatly appreciated by everyone.

Our Achievements/ Proud Moments

Ours is a team that is working together relentlessly to achieve a common goal and producing cent percentage results, in X, XI and XII standard public examinations every year. Centum scoring has almost become an annual feature.

Sports:

The students of our school, at all levels are coached to win and not to defeat. We have strong kho-kho, volleyball, shuttle, table tennis and chess teams, and year after year, they bring laurels to the school by winning at zonal, district, state and national levels.

Inter & Intra school competitions:

Our students have made the school proud by winning prizes, exhibiting their talents and skills in inter and intra school competitions.

Various club activities give the school its charm and every student is a member of atleast one club.

Sloka and music is a part of the curriculum to make the children sway with the tradition and customs of our value based society.

Social Activities:

Our children understand, ‘Service Before Self’ through temple cleaning, visiting old age homes, bringing awareness about conserving the ecosystem.

Alumni of Sankara:

The alumni indeed are a testimony to the noble values imbibed by their Alma Mater. The alumni of our school have formed an Alumni Association- ‘Mithra’ which helps the needy, deserving and diligent students.
